Board of Directors
John Anthony van Polanen - Chairman
First elected to ALIL Board in 2002 and became chairman in 2007. He is currently ALIL representative on the RDRML Board. John strongly supports the cooperative principals and is proud to be part of the ALIL team, that is dedicated to helping shareholders improve water and nutrient efficiency. He became a shareholder in ALIL in 1988 when he and wife Joanne purchased their first farm and converted it to dairying. With further acquistions they now operate a self-contained dairy unit of 359ha.
John Stuart Robinson
John is married to Lorraine, with three adult children farming in partnership on a 3rd generation cropping farm in Methven. he has held a part chairmanship at Mt Hutt College and Secretary of the Methven Rugby Club. Alongside his ALIL Directorship, he is also a Director of Irrigo Centre Ltd and his own farming business.
Colin Wesley Glass
A qualified Chartered Accountant, Colin holds a Commerce Degree in Farm Management and a post-graduate Diploma in Accountancy and Corporate Finance from Lincoln University. Colin is married to Paula and they have two young daughters. In addition to his position as Chief Executive of Dairy Holdings Ltd, he is a Director of a number of irrigation and agribusiness companies and has his own farming interests in Mid-Canterbury.
Gerard Andrew Murphy
Gerard has been an ALIL shareholder since 1992 and farms a 100ha Borderdyke property at Winchmore as a dairy support block. Throughout the same period he has worked primarily in rural banking and has a good understanding of the wider Mid Canterbury region. Gerard holds a degree in Farm Management and Valuation from Lincoln University and is a registered member of the NZ Institute of Primary Industry Management. He is currently a Senior Rural Manager with Rabobank in Ashburton.
Andrew (Andy) James Ronald Grant
Andy is the Operations Manager of the family farming operation. A 2 shed, 2,000 cow, 850ha, fully self-contained dairy operation. Attending Massey University and completed a Bachelor Applied Science (majoring in Animal Science) and a Post Grad Diploma in Business & Adminstration. Since University, has had a variety of jobs in agriculture and Ag service sector, of note a rural bank manager for 3.5 years. Andy has a supportive and understanding wife, Tam and a young daughter.
Randal David Hanrahan
Randal operates an arable and beef fattening farm at Fairton, and is the third generation of his family to farm on the 307 ha site. Randal and Louise have four young children. Alongside the farming operation Randal also has an agricultural contracting business. He is serving his second term on the Board of Trustees of Ashburton Borough School and currently holds the role of Chairman.
Jesse (Jess) Thomas Dargue
Jess has been employed by ALIL since November 2002, originally starting with the scheme as a raceman. Now Scheme Manager, Jess oversees the scheme operation in conjunction with the four ALIL staff, as well as Project Management of the Stage 2 Upgrade. He is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of St Joseph's School, Ashburton and alongside his wife Susan and their three sons, has a strong interest in the local Tennis Community.
